So last month the New Yorkian digital master craftsmen Sweatshoppe paid us a visit during their tour of Europe. They brought their unique invention with them and, as this previous post points out they painted raw video art up onto the building. It’s art at the corners of technology. Future skill.
We liked them so much that are now officially part of the family – so expect more genius! But for now here’s the short video they made with a hello from your author at the start… gert lush!
News from Dr. Rod Palmer in earthquake-struck Chile just in:
CHILE ESTYLEPablo Aravena, of Next: a Primer on Urban Art (Canada / France 2007), is planning to make another full-length documentary film: on the booming graffiti scene in his native Chile. The 10 minute demo of Chile Estyle can be seen on the webpage www.chileestyle.com which is launched today. Check out the interviews with many of Chile´s finest. The demo was filmed in LA in December, and in Santiago de Chile and Valparaíso in January, i.e. pre the 27 February earthquake.

FUERZA CHILE
Graffiti in Chile is not quaked. Last week, in Santiago´s Plaza Italia, Guztok of NadieCrew (Nobody Crew) popped up with ´FUERZA CHILE´ :
Santiago locals liked the girly ´C` and quaking cityscape of the ´L´ in C-H-I-L-E:
Yes Dan Hillier! This amination is excellence! And big ups to Losers + Riz MC & Envy – Riz, you’re big in the club (sandwich) bro! Love it.
Dan did the art, and Tom Werber did the animationing and directerizing. And they did it proper. The boss track ‘Flush’ is out on 5th April on Distiller Records… and Dan has just released a set of prints which I suggest you buy before you spend it.

So there are quite a few different bits of documentary video floating around about Street Art. Most of them are painfully standard I think. Man does painting, man sits still and talks about painting. If you click the ‘Video Gallery’ tab to the right and scroll to the bottom you’ll see some of our video’s that are a bit doccy (Dr. D vs Brown and Cameron + One Day at Cordy House). We try to do something at least a bit different…
Here is one that was posted on Wooster Collective that does follow the ’see picture, talk about picture’ format but it’s well constructed, what do you reckon to it?

Also, there’s a new one coming out called ‘New Brow, The Rise of Underground Art’. It’s showing at Westbourne Studios and we’re going to see it this week. Critical judgement will be passed! So check back next week if you could give a flying monkey’s…
Cooo… what will he come up with next? We’re about to find out – here’s the trailer for the new episode in Banksy’s ‘Mad Cap Capers’ series. Looks militant. I just hope it doesn’t suck. We shall see.

The Street Art scene in South America is astounding. Everyone is talking about Brazillian Street Art with good reason – but what about the thriving Chilean scene and the developing styles of Argentina and Paraguay? At One Foot in the Grove we were very happy to host this work by Wolf and PXL from Chile…
…and we’ve got links to South America so watch this space for reports on the distinct and amazing styles happening over there. For now, check this video from Denotes hip hop & graffiti crew, of Asunción, Paraguay. Joma & Kast of Denotes are MCs and graffiti writers. In the background, there are typographic throw ups by them, and by Above, who came through Asunción. Above and Denotes have been to Brazil, and their letters incorporate the Brazilian pixaçao lettering style.

Here at Mutate Britain’s throbbing Head Quarters we like it when you send us stuff. Remi Rough sent this video, which admittedly has been out for a few weeks now but it’s an art battle that lets you compare the processes and raw creativity of two different artists, which I like.

If you want to send us something then [email protected] is the address – big ups to you all individually but also as a collective, well done, carry on… oh wait, I’m going to put up this video of Pure Evil that I tripped over while rambling around – if only ’cause it made me laugh, cue the music…

Yo, here’s Chu’s video from One Foot in the Grove, ultimate big ups to him for making it – we love videos! So, if you’ve made one, whack the mother up on the Tube of You and ping the details over here. Lots of excting things bubbling away in the Dutchie, we’ll keep on posting Mutate British business and expect events to unfold in the next few months – so fingers off the dial!
